To use a Z-Move, a Trainer must have a Z-Ring, which is worn on the arm, and a Z-Crystal to set into it. This is an entirely new battle mechanic that can only be used once per battle. In Pokemon Moon, Alolan Raticate will appear as the Totem Pokemon in this scene. In the recent trailer, Gumshoos is shown as a Totem Pokemon in Pokemon Sun. This Totem Pokemon is an especially strong native Pokemon with the ability to call on other Pokemon, usually its pre-evolution, to help in the midst of battle. Once passing this trial, the player will be able to battle a Totem Pokemon. On each island there is a Trial Captain who specializes in a type of Pokemon and will test the player's skill in their own unique manner.
